Kate's Story

Sewing is often something that many people don’t think about, especially at a young age. For Kate, however, it all started when she was 16, and her caring nature for the clothes she wore to school. Keeping them clean and tidy was one thing, but having them look nice and in shape needed some thread and needle. A few years would go by, and Kate decided to attend fashion school in Ukraine. She would spend two years learning the basic skills needed to be a tailor, which would set the groundwork for something special. Little did she know those initial steps into the world of sewing would later embark her on a remarkable journey of tailoring expertise, spanning over 35 years.

 

Kate would express her creativity and passion for life through the garments she would make, bringing to life the images she had seen in magazines, films, and pop culture of the time. Having this eye for fashion trends and passion for the craft, Kate took a distinctive turn when she stepped into the illustrious realm of high-end fashion. 

 

Her early years at Tonka Fashion, would introduce her to the fine and elegant garments made by famous designers from around the world; working on such high end works of art was one of the joys she always dreamed of. Soon after her dreams of working in high end fashion would come true, and she would go on and immerse in the fine and graceful studios of renowned retailers such as Holt Renfrew and Nordstrom. These experiences would be more than just employment, but chapters in a story where threads intertwined with luxury, and creativity met couture. 

 

Kate’s prowess in the art of tailoring extends beyond the conventional. With over three decades of experience, she has honed the ability to replicate designer clothing with an impeccable eye for detail. Restyling became a signature touch in Kate’s repertoire, where critical thinking met creativity in a dance that breathed new life into old garments; just as she used to sew and tailor her school uniform all those years ago. Every stitch, every adjustment, carried the weight of an artistic decision, transforming not just the fabric but the very essence of the piece.
